“Man Walking in Forest”

December 8, 2025

A view of trees reaching to the sky and a man walking
Alan Watts, lecturing about the Taoist Way (accessed via Waking Up),
talks about Taoist and Zen inspired painters.
They view humans as an integral part of nature:
“Something in it just as anything else is in it–flowers and birds–
and not sent into this world, commissioned by some sort of supernatural being
to come into this world and farm it and dominate it.”

So their traditional landscape art will often show the human
blending into (rather than dominating) the landscape.
See: “Poet drinking by moonlight” as one example.
It made me think of this photo.
