Irreplaceable

June 17

View of a tree from below with the morning light filtering through its leaves
So many branches, so many roots. She gives shade, oxygen, and safe haven, and then there’s her singular, irreplaceable beauty. I looked up through the lace of her leaves catching the morning sunlight and my breath was taken away. It made me grateful for her stewards, those who have care for her and helped her to thrive.
Our neighbours recently killed one of these trees in their backyard. These silent beings that live in a frame of time and space so different from our own can never be replaced, and I’ll never understand.
