Snow Swan

February 28

A Trumpeter Swan swimming in February's icy water
When I was a child, these birds were rarely seen.
I guess that’s why I still feel a thrill when I spot one, even as their numbers slowly recover.
This one seemed to be basking in the sun, with a sparkle in her eye.
What must she be thinking?
(Fun fact: Trumpeter swans are the largest native waterfowl in North America and
the heaviest flying bird on the continent.)
