These ladies in a pre-migratory conference are Common Mergansers (Linnaeus, 1758).
Mergus: Latin word used by Pliny the Elder and fellow Romans for unspecified water birds.
Anser: Latin for goose.
Imagine being named ‘common’ and ‘unspecified.’
Good thing names only matter to us.
