Limestone Patterns

2025:

Limestone clints and grykes on our hiking path
Limestone is permeable rock composed mainly of calcium carbonate. (An ingredient in antacids!)
Water enters its pores, joints or cracks and slowly dissolve it, resulting in all sorts of caves, sinkholes, and pavements. This one is on our hiking trail.
The patterns are fascinating and stir the imagination.
Nature’s art.

2026:

A gap in the limestone seen in a field. It's depth is unknown.
There’s something unnerving about a gap in the Earth’s surface.
We want it to be solid and reliable.
I felt the nerves in my feet tingle when I stood over this crevice to take a photo,
hoping I’d see the bottom.
All I saw was more darkness.
