Common?

A Killdeer rests on gravel and appears to be singing
The Killdeer, a “common shorebird found throughout North America”, is often found in golf courses, on lawns, and near parking lots.
Their population has been slowly declining since the 1960s and yet they continue to be one of the more successful shorebird species because they can adapt to human-modified habitats.
Far from common and a little sad.
